EMAN & WBCSD Conference: Measuring sustainability performance

Measuring sustainability performance.
Bridging corporate and academic approaches and contributions.

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in association with the Environmental and Sustainability Management Accounting Network (EMAN) are pleased to announce a symposium on business measurement, valuation and reporting of environmental and social impacts and performance.

The symposium is designed to

  • showcase existing research on environmental and sustainability manage­ment accounting,
  • and to bring academics and business practitioners together to help define and foster collaborative and participative research.

This unique event will take place in Geneva, Switzerland on 1st and 2nd October 2015.

Call for extended Abstracts

We invite abstracts addressing the gap between practitioners and academia concerning the measurement of sustainability performance. The abstracts must be allocated to one of the following groups:

A: Experiments & case studies

Research papers examining the application of sustainability measurement concepts in corporate practice

B: Methodological approaches to bridge the gap

Description of approaches developed to support the application of academic sustainability measurement methods in corporate practice.

C: Evaluation of implementation experiences by consultants

Consultants are often the link between academia and practitioners. Research on the experiences of sustainability measurement performance measurement methods in corporate practice is welcome.

D: Practitioner – academic reports:

Practitioners should address the question “How do we use academic knowledge and approaches for sustainability performance measurement? How do we collaborate with academia?”
Academics should focus on “How do we collaborate with companies / practitioners in order to add value to sustainability performance measurement in practice?”

The submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the scientific conference committee (conference organizers and EMAN global team). Extended abstracts from the conference will be published in the conference proceedings with an ISBN. The deadline for abstracts is Monday 22nd June 2015. Extended abstract should be between 5.000 and max. 10.000 characters long, excl. references. Notification of acceptance will be sent out by Monday 6th July 2015.
Please note that to ensure a high quality event the number of academic presentations is limited to 50. Please send your abstract to and indicate witch type of abstract (A to D) you are submitting.

Tentative schedule:

  • Call for abstracts announcement: March 2015
  • Abstract submission: By Monday 22nd June 2015
  • Notification of acceptance: By Monday 6th July 2015
